Presque Isle Downs & Casino Fined Over $80K for Violations
The Pennsylvania Gaming Control Board (PGCB) recently imposed a hefty fine of $81,575 on Presque Isle Downs & Casino for various rule violations. The penalties were decided at a meeting held on February 26, where the casino was found guilty of failing to comply with regulations related to slot machines and licensing.
Presque Isle Downs & Casino, which is operated by PID LLC, was slapped with a fine of $50,000 for not keeping an adequate number of slot machines operational on their gaming floor. Additionally, they were required to pay $31,575 for failing to submit a Principal License application within the stipulated timeframe. The PGCB’s Office of Enforcement Counsel, responsible for monitoring the gaming industry in Pennsylvania, identified these infractions.
Expansion of the Involuntary Exclusion List
Alongside the financial penalties, the PGCB also announced decisions regarding its Involuntary Exclusion List. Nine individuals either had their appeals to be removed from the list rejected or were newly added. Inclusion in this list prohibits individuals from entering any casino within the state, utilizing regulated online gambling platforms, or engaging with video gaming terminals (VGTs) in Pennsylvania.
Men Banned from PA Casinos for Abandoning Children
The exclusion list saw an increase with the addition of two men who abandoned minors while gambling at casinos. One individual left a five-year-old child unattended in a car at Rivers Casino Philadelphia’s valet parking area for a duration of 12 minutes, while attending to matters inside the establishment.
Another man abandoned a 10-year-old child in a car at Wind Creek Casino’s parking garage in Bethlehem, where the child was left alone with the windows up and the engine off for 45 minutes, despite the scorching 90-degree weather outside.
An appeal made by a woman to be removed from the exclusion list was denied by the board. She was added to the list in 2022 after leaving her three children aged 10, 14, and 15 in a car at Hollywood Casino at Penn National Race Course for approximately two hours while she indulged in gaming activities.
PGCB’s Awareness Campaign to Combat Child Abandonment
PGCB officials emphasized the dangers of leaving children unattended in casino premises such as parking areas or garages. To address this issue, the board initiated an awareness campaign named “Don’t Gamble with Kids” to educate visitors about the risks and legal consequences associated with such actions.
The PGCB’s upcoming meeting is scheduled for March 26, 2025, to be held in the board’s Public Hearing Room in Harrisburg. Stakeholders and the general public are encouraged to participate in the meeting to gain insights into the regulatory matters concerning Pennsylvania’s gaming industry.
